Garrett Family, continued

  Mary Ernestine Garrett GODBOLD, daughter of Edgar and Ada Garrett, was born on October 19, 1916,
in Franklin County, Mississippi.  Mary Ernestine, known as Ernestine, married Willard GODBOLD, of
Lincoln County, Mississippi, on June 2, 1951 at the First Methodist Church of Brookhaven,
Mississippi.  Willard was the son of James and Margaret Cecelia BEAM GODBOLD.  Most of their
married life was spent in Brookhaven, where, for many years, Ernestine was a much loved and well
respected nurse at King's Daughters Hospital.  Willard and Ernestine were both dedicated and
tireless workers at their church and they are sadly missed by everyone in their family and by their
many friends.  Ernestine died on July 15, 1993 and Willard died on November 24, 1994, both at King's
Daughters Hospital in Brookhaven.  They are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookhaven,
Mississippi.  To this marriage, one child was born.

     Jessie Lee Garrett, daughter of Edgar and Ada, was born May 10, 1918, Franklin County,
Mississippi; and died July 8, 1919, Franklin County; buried in Union Church Cemetery, Jefferson
County, Mississippi.

     Bessie Marie Garrett MURRAY, Jessie Lee's twin, was born on May 10, 1918, in Franklin County,
Mississippi.  Bessie married Leslie James MURRAY, of Franklin County, on August 15, 1937.  Leslie
was born on July 24, 1915, the son of James Monroe and Lula Charlene McMANUS MURRAY.  Most of
their married years were spent in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi.  Leslie died on March 27, 2001,
in Natchez.  He is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi.  To this
union, two children were born.

Arie Lee Garrett KING, daughter of Josiah and Flora Garrett, was born on February 27, 1877, in
Jefferson County, Mississippi and died on August 27, 1933.  Arie Lee married Ira Arthur KING on May 8,
1901.  Ira, was born on September 15, 1872 and died on July 10, 1943.  They are both buried in Union
Church Cemetery, Jefferson County, Mississippi.
To this union, seven children were born:
      Lola Winifred King, born May 24, 1902; died May 22, 1903.
      Flora Marie King, born March 15, 1904; died July 1, 1976; buried in Union Church Cemetery,
Jefferson County.
      Willie Valentine King, born February 14, 1906; died February 11, 1943; buried in Union Church
Cemetery, Jefferson County.
      Nannie Elizabeth King NORTHCUTT, born April 1, 1908; died on June 14, 1983.  Nannie married
Alonzo NORTHCUTT, born on September 19, 1908; died on November 30, 1992.  They are buried in
Union Church Cemetery, Jefferson County.
       Robert Lee King, born on April 10, 1910; died on April 8, 1989; buried in Union Church Cemetery,
Jefferson County.
       Ira A. King Jr., born in 1913.
      Rebekah King, born in 1915.

Nannie Garrett McCORMICK, daughter of Josiah and Flora Garrett, was born on October 10, 1878, and
died on July 30, 1907.  Nannie married Archie McCORMICK (a cousin of Nancy McCormick Carmichael)
in 1906, at Union Presbyterian Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi.  She died in childbirth in 1907
and the baby died, as well.  They are buried together in Union Church Cemetery.  She was a beautiful
young woman, with a kind and sweet nature, and her death affected all who knew her.

Jodie Garrett, son of Josiah and Flora Garrett, was born on July 27, 1880, in Jefferson County,
Mississippi and died on November 1965.  Joseph married Rose DELANEY on April 15, 1909.  They lived
most of their married lives in Philadelphia, Mississippi.  To this union, five children were born.

Flora Garrett DAWKINS, daughter of Josiah and Flora Garrett, was born on August 10, 1883, in
Jefferson County, Mississippi, and died on May 23, 1967.  Flora married Ernest Eugene DAWKINS (who
was a brother of my grandmother, Ada Dawkins Garrett) in 1903.  Ernest was born on November 7,
1883 and died on December 16, 1913.  They had no children.  They are buried in Union Church
Cemetery.

JACOB GARRETT, son of Isaac and Abba Ann Garrett,  was born January 21, 1844, in Jefferson County,
Mississippi and died on May 12, 1907, in Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Virginia.  Immediately
after the end of the Civil War, on July 18, 1865, Jacob married Betty Sarah TAYLOR in Virginia.  Betty
was born March 17, 1847, in Virginia, and died November 14, 1922, in Christiansburg, Virginia.  She and
Jacob are both buried there.
To this union, eleven children were born:

     Annie M. Garrett BOYER was born May 29, 1866; married E. H. BOYER, October 15, 1890; and died
on May 21, 1896.

     Margie E. Garrett SHUMAKER was born on January 1, 1868; married Figgatt SHUMAKER on October
19, 1887; and died on November 14, 1922.

     Alonzo E. Garrett was born on February 27, 1870; married 1) Evangeline FINLEY on June 30, 1902;
married 2) Marguerite MAXWELL; died on May 5, 1933.

     Eva May Garrett BINGHAM was born on April 6, 1872; married J. W. BINGHAM on December 24,
1890; and died on May 27, 1948.

     Correllia D. Garrett GARNETT ws born on December 22, 1873; married Ed B. GARNETT on June 2,
1897.

     Warren D. Garrett was born on January 23, 1876; and died on August 21, 1898.

     Charles W. Garrett was born on May 10, 1878; married Lulu COLA on July 3, 1923; and died on
January 23, 1960.

      Willie B. Garrett was born on October 30, 1880. and died on February 24, 1923.

      Frank H. Garrett was born on December 12, 1882; married Helen LINK on December 22, 1912; and
died on January 31, 1928.

      Bessie R. Garrett LAVINDER was born on March 8, 1885; married Milton G. LAVINDER on August 27,
1914; and died on January 21, 1948.

      Rufus Leroy Garrett was born on July 28, 1890.

ISAAC NEWTON GARRETT was born about 1847, according to Jefferson County census records.  Isaac
Newton married and lived out is life in the Union Church area.  It's known that he had at least two
sons, Clarence and Lawrence, who were both born near Union Church and moved, as adults, to the
San Antonio area of Texas.

THOMAS W. GARRETT was born about 1848/9, according to Jefferson County census records.  No
more is known about Thomas at this time.

S. A. GARRETT was born on September 6, 1851; died on December 24, 1851.  He is buried in Union
Church Cemetery, Jefferson County, Mississippi.

W. B. GARRETT was born on September 28, 1853; died on July 13, 1854.  He is buried in Union Church
Cemetery, Jefferson County, MIssissippi.

BENJAMIN GARRETT was born about 1855, according to Jefferson County census records.  Benjamin
married and lived in the area of Union Church for the rest of his life.  No more is known of Benjamin at
this time.
