Funeral Services Held for Mrs. J. C. Magearl Mrs. James Clyde Magearl passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Wednesday, August 24, 1977. She had been in failing health for several years, but a fall, which resulted in a broken arm, precipitated surgery, which was the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. Magearl, the former Gladys Dawkins, was born in Fayette, Mississippi, September 3, 1903. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Fairley Dawkins and Hattie Lenora Erwin Dawkins. She graduated from Jefferson County High School and attended Mississippi Normal College, now Mississippi Southern University, Hattiesburg, MS, and taught several years before she was married to Mr. James Clyde Magearl on May 5, 1925. Mr. Magearl preceded Mrs. Magearl in death May 7, 1971. Mrs. Magearl was a member of the Fayette Presbyterian Church, Fayette, MS, and The Order of the Eastern Star, St. Francisville, LA. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Aline Dwyer, St. Francisville, LA, five grandchildren; Mrs. Lucille Edwards, Alexandria, LA; Addison Dwyer, III, Merchant Marine; Miss Aline Dwyer, Shreveport, LA; Alan Dwyer, St. Francisville, LA and Lance Dwyer, Houma, LA; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Dodds and Miss Nan Dawkins of Jackson, MS; two brothers, Walter Dawkins, Jackson, MS and Ernest Dawkins, Fayette, MS. The Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary, LA, had charge of the services. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock a.m., Friday, August 26, from the Grace Episcopal Church, St. Francisville, LA, and were conducted by the Rev. John Sennet, with interment in the Church Cemetery. Her grandsons, Lance and Alan Dwyer, Ozzie Edwards and nephews, Imon Dawkins, Vidalia, LA, Stephen Fairly Dawkins, Vicksburg, MS and Dr. Walter E. Dawkins, Natchez, MS, served as pallbearers. |
