Traffic Jam on the River Longshoremen's Strike, 1965 |
From A-P Press Release, February 2, 1965: "Wait for Strike to End - This heavy concentration of ships, anchored in the Mississippi River at New Orleans due to the longshoremen's strike, has prompted Dock Board officials to suspend charges and allow ships at anchor to berth at the docks without charge. The decision was made to reduce hazards to ships still operating in the river." |
