The Descendants of My G-G-Grandparents
DANIEL and NANCY McCORMICK CARMICHAEL
Nancy McCORMICK, daughter of Duncan and Katherine McCormick and my g-g-grandmother, was
born on September 28, 1801 near Laurinburg, Richmond County, North Carolina.  She married
Daniel
CARMICHAEL
on December 13th, 1827.  Daniel Carmichael  was the son of Dougald Carmichael of
Marion County, South Carolina.  According to "The Highlander Carmichaels of the Carolinas," Daniel
was born on January 8, 1804, however, census records from Alabama and Mississippi indicate that his
age is the same as Nancy's, which would mean that he was probably born in1802.
According to census records, Daniel and Nancy spent the first several years of their married life in
South Carolina, probably in Marion County.  They show up in the Autagua County, Alabama censuses
of 1840 and 1850.  My g-grandmother, Flora, was born in Alabama in 1839 and her older sister,
Rebecca was born in 1836 in South Carolina, so they moved to Alabama between 1836-1839.  By
1860, they are in Union Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi.  The Autagua census indicates that
Daniel's occupation was "mason."  The Jefferson County census says "farmer."  By the 1880 census,
Daniel Carmichael is living in Karnes County, TX, along with two of his sons who have migrated there.
Nancy died on January 4, 1874, but I don't know if she died in Jefferson County, MS or if the
Carmichaels had moved to Texas before that time.  Daniel died on November 30, 1889.  I have been
unable to find their gravesites in Jefferson County or in the GIllet Cemetery, Karnes County, where the
other members of the Carmichael family (and the Fairlys and Dromgooles, who, also, migrated there
from Jefferson County, MS) are buried.  To the union of Daniel and Nancy, ten children were born:

Catherine Jane Carmichael was born on October 5, 1830, in South Carolina.  She married
Archibald McINTYRE on December 2, 1856, at the Union Presbyterian Church, Union Church,
Jefferson County, Mississippi.  She died on January 8, 1876.  Their children were:
F. C.;  R. C.;  and
twins
: E. C. and Aurora McIntyre.

Evander J. C. Carmichael was born on November 18, 1832, in South Carolina.  He was in
Charley Clark Rifles, Company A, MS 12th Infantry Regiment.  Evander's name can be found among
those who surrendered at Appomattox.  Evander settled in Gillett, Karnes County, Texas.  He died on
February 16, 1905 and is buried in Gillett Cemetery, Karnes County, Texas.

Nancy Carmichael was born about 1834, in Marion County, South Carolina.  Nothing else is
known of Nancy at this time.

Rebecca Carmichael was born on March 14, 1836, in Marion County, South Carolina.  She
married
Archibald Robert FAIRLY on June 9th, 1860, at the Union Presbyterian Church, Union
Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi.  After Archie's death in 1888, Rebecca and all of the children,
except Daniel Hugh, who was in college, moved to Waco, Texas.  In approximately 1900, Rebecca and
all of the children, except Nancy Naomi, who had married in Waco, moved to Gillett, Karnes County,
Texas, to be near Rebecca's brothers, who had moved there from Jefferson County, MS.  Rebecca
died October 30,  1921 and is buried in Gillett Cemetery, Karnes County, Texas.  When Daniel Hugh
finished at Ole Miss, he joined them there.  Children of Archie and Rebecca::
